What is Muscle Testing and How is it Used to Diagnose?

Since you began your life changing journey to explore the world of holistic healthcare, you may have heard of a manual technique called “muscle testing”. Although many people may not understand muscle testing, it can be used as a great tool to better treat patients. There are documents of its efficacy dating back to 1915, when muscle testing was used to help the scientific community better understand Polio. Since then it has gained quite a bit of recognition through the field of Applied Kinesiology and in clinical practice around the world, and rightfully so. Muscle testing is a remarkable way to tap into our bodies' natural awareness to learn what is best for us on a cellular level.

How does muscle testing work?

Whether we realize it or not, our muscles increase and decrease in pressure/strength in response to:

  • What we eat

  • Many chemicals, soaps, perfumes and cleaning products we are exposed to

  • Who we are around

  • What emotions we are experiencing

By tuning into the body and brain's network of communication we are able to determine what possible blocks and triggers the body is currently exposed to.

What types of ailments can be uncovered through muscle testing?

One of the most common and effective uses for muscle testing is allergy testing. A small exposure to substances or foods that a patient may be allergic to would produce a particularly weakened muscular response that can be seen by a trained practitioner and even the patient themself. This is a normal response that may indicate a possible allergy to the substance or food in question. There is really no limit to muscle testing, and other uses may include:

  • Determining nutritional needs

  • Detecting complications such as infections in an organ

  • Uncovering a hormonal imbalance that may require more testing from a specialist

  • Finding the root cause of pain

Is Muscle Testing safe?

Muscle testing is completely, 100% safe. Due to the noninvasive nature of this test, there have been no recorded incidents or injuries induced by muscle testing. This is one reason we prefer to use this technique, among others, in determining ailments in our patients at Transcend Wellness Chiropractic.
